Founded in December 2003, Kirkpatrick Estate Winery is Gisborne’s most unique boutique winery. The vineyard site had been established and developed during the previous 20 years by owners Alec and Helen Stuart, who experimented with many grape varieties and released a label then known as Shalimar.
Located on the Patutahi Plateau Kirkpatrick Estate Winery is a single estate producer. This ensures excellent viticultural management and quality focus, allowing us the ability to select specific areas of the vineyard for specific wines. The vineyard is comprised of distinctly different elevations, terraces and soil types, which develop distinct flavours and ripeness, giving us varied blending options and wine styles. These distinct areas are kept separate throughout the entire winemaking process to ensure the final blends are the best representation of our vineyard.
The vineyard area covers 6.7 hectares and is comprised of 45% Merlot, 35% Chardonnay, 5% Malbec, 10% Gewurztraminer, 4% Viognier and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon.
