Gisborne Winery - Kirkpatrick Estate Winery
Kirkpatrick Estate Winery is nestled close to where Kirkpatrick families have worked the land for over 150 years - on Gisborne's Patutahi Plateau. One of the truly hand crafted brands of the growing boutique wine industry of Gisborne, the Kirkpatrick vineyard enjoys spectacular elevated views and varied terroir. This offers unique winemaking and blending options for our range of distinctly expressive wines.
Kirkpatrick Estate Winery evolved when Simon Kirkpatrick purchased the winery in 2003, along with the 8 hectare vineyard planted with 5 to 20 year old vines of Merlot, Chardonnay, Malbec, and Gewürztraminer. Since 2003, Simon has redeveloped parts of the older vineyard with new clones of Viognier and Gewurztraminer.
With the focus and dedication of his winemaking team, Anita Ewart-Croy and Justin Atkinson, all six Kirkpatrick wines have been awarded medals (in fact 50 medals to date).
At Kirkpatrick Estate we craft all of our wines from our own carefully tended vines. Each area of each variety is assessed at harvest for the most suitable wine style, and then reassessed once the winemaking and barrel maturation is complete. Our vineyard is Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand accredited and we implement sustainable practices throughout the winemaking process as much as possible and are in the process of becoming SWNZ acredited in the winery.
Visitors are warmly welcomed at our Cellar Door to enjoy wine tastings, wine sales and antipasto delights. The vineyard garden has wonderful views of the Patutahi valley while you relax in the sunshine sipping your favourite wine from our range. Our antipasto offers a wide selection of of tasty treats including our own Estate grown and cured Verdale olives. We can rearrange the antipasto to suit your individual dietry requirements.
Please enquire about vineyard tours when you visit, as we can take you up to the Top Flat vineyard where you can overlook the fantastic Patutahi Plateau appellation, and look out to sea to Young Nicks head, where Captain Cook first sighted the land of New Zealand.
